I love my houseplant.

Other plants have come and gone, but Sunny has remained my constant living and loving companion plant for most of my adulthood.

I remember the day I bought her at the grocery store. It was the same day I started my company - the one that ended up defining my career. She was a little sprig of a philodendron back then and only donned just 5 or 6 leaves. I lovingly gave her a home in an old McCoy planter of my mothers. She could barely see over the sides back then, the same ones she cascades over now.

This plant has seen me go through both the hardest and the greatest times of my life. She has served as a sounding board for tough business decisions and as a reminder to me to keep persevering.

She has taught me the meaning of perennial and has seen me come back as many times as I have her. That's right, I haven't always been to good to her and she has seen her share of shady days too. In spite of my occasional neglect though, she has never let down.

So, I celebrate my beautiful houseplant friend, Sunny. I hope she graces my windowsill for many more years to come.
