Rescripting Your Life: Practicing Introspection

We tend to look outside of ourselves for answers to problems.  It’s just easier to say that someone or something else is responsible for a communication breakdown or misunderstanding.  It takes practice to look at our interpersonal interactions in a more responsible and honest way, but the rewards are well worth it.

Introspection, the process of observing one’s own life, can help you understand your motives, psychology and self-image, which effectively allows you to also change them.  If you want to understand how something works, you study it.  Introspection is just that - a sort of research we are doing on ourselves.  Through meditating and envisioning our actions throughout the day, we learn more about who we are, which allows us to change things we don’t like and improve on things about ourselves that we do.

Looking inside of myself like this, has resulted in a greater peace in life for me.  By looking at how I have acted through the day, I have become more aware and feel like a happier person.  It feels good understanding myself, making it not so painful after all to take responsibility for my weaknesses and failures.

Although facing your weaknesses does make you stronger, this practice is not about dwelling on the past and your shortcomings.  When you come across something about yourself that you don’t like, it becomes much easier to just change it and avoid it in the future.  Introspection allows you to react to situations in more controlled and predictable way and makes it less confusing to talk about your feelings with other people.

Studying your own life can also be a great way to discover and focus on an interest or skill, which could lead to all sorts of new and positive experiences and behavior.  The self-confidence of introspection gives you the power to act on things you discover that you enjoy.

Practicing Introspection
The more you understand about yourself and the world, the more you will be able to get out of it.  If you want to start practicing introspection and open up new possibilities for yourself, start by setting aside 10 minutes of the day for yourself.

Once you are seated comfortably in a quiet place, close your eyes and take a few deeps breaths to relax.  Start replaying your day in your head as it happened, envisioning everything you did in as much detail as you can recall.

It should flow like a movie, complete with details, like what was playing on the radio and in what sequence, exactly what you wore, the exact words you used, etc.  Skip things you get caught up on and try and visualize your day as if you were an outsider looking in.

Each week you can add new techniques to your practice, including:
  • Stopping the film when you notice you do something you don’t like.  Tell yourself you want to do less of that.
  • Stopping the film when you do something you like.  Tell yourself you want to do more of that.
  • Ask yourself questions, such as why you act certain ways.
  • Substitute new behaviors for old ones – embed a new clip altogether or replace one you want to leave on the cutting room floor.

The Zen Practice Of Bonsai.

A bonsai is an expression of the essence and spirit of Nature in miniature form.
The gardener becomes the artist.  His ever-changing composition, the tree.

The artist and the tree flow together to create the beautiful bonsai,
a Zen practice that draws one closer to Nature, and ultimately to one's self.

The virtues required for the contemplative act of creating bonsai are called Shin Zen Bi in Japanese, meaning truth, goodness and beauty.

A bonsai represents heaven and earth in one container. The triangular pattern symbolizes the relationship between the universe, the artist and the tree. The tree in placed to one side of the container, out of respect for the center, which stands for the meeting point of heaven and earth.

A bonsai that is properly cared for, can live for a hundred years or more.  Some people name them and pass them down for generations.

Mr. Arigato, my Bonsai.
It's important to select exactly the right tree for you.
Give it time, your tree will find you.

Once it does, take care to feed it weekly and carefully prune  branches and roots as needed.

Spend time with your tree each day, contemplating nature and harmony.

Mystical Matchmaking. Putting students in touch with teachers, and vice versa.

Trying to make a difference.
Isn't that what we're all ultimately trying to do?

Sometimes it's just not that easy though is it?   You can get swallowed up with things that can knock you off of the right path. Here's a little something I wrote for energy workers and healing practitioners...
~~~
Trying to share your gift and passion with others can be a lonely task at times - I know this all too well!  There are those moments when classes bomb and you end up sitting there with 1 student, or worse, maybe none at all. Or even when you have a workshop that goes great, you may find yourself worried about pulling it off again.  Those are the times when it's really hard to keep believing.
It's easy to start doubting yourself or the Universe
when it's not all coming together just right.
I have sat and asked myself many times,
"How can my urge to help people be so strong, that the whole world isn't embracing this immediately like I am?!"
Those kind of questions can turn into self doubt. And when you're all alone, that doubt can swallow you whole!  Bills pile up, workshop attendance is low and other commitments start to weigh on you.  All the while, you keep trying to hold onto the vision of helping people.
I sat with these questions for a long time myself, until I realized my true destiny of helping other people on this same journey.  Turns out, I have a knack for bringing Healing Arts people together.  Making connections that lead to healing, rather than providing the healing itself, is what I do best.
I write. I connect. I love and I support healers of all kinds on their journeys.
I put students in touch with teachers, and vice versa.
I encourage people to love and support each other and help to make that possible.
When you know, without any doubt, that you have a gift that you want to share with the world, contact me and I will help you do that.  You can CLICK HERE to get in touch.
I will be the hands that help balance you up there
on that magical ladder you deserve to climb!
I can hold your hand and teach what I know about making connections online and in the community. I can help you market your services and will gladly and lovingly support your journey to heal people while growing your business.
I've owned 4 successful companies in my career and am very talented when it comes to business. I would be happy to share this knowledge with anyone in the Healing Arts Community.  I charge as much for my services as I need to, to continue being able to do this.  I also donate a lot of time and money to people in need.  As far as the money goes, we can work something out.  My prices are very fair and I won't charge you a penny unless I am sure I can help you succeed.
What exactly can I help you with:
~ I can show my support by coming to your classes or workshops.
I HAVE NEVER WORKED WITH ANYONE THAT I HAVE NOT DONE BUSINESS WITH PERSONALLY.  No offense, I just need to know that you're 'GOOD PEOPLE' before I can go referring you to my friends. :)
~ I can list your classes and wares on a HOLISTIC MARKETPLACE page I have in the works.
~ I can share your social media posts on my pages.
~ I can write or videotape honest reviews of your services or products.
~ I can share Reiki, Yoga & Shamanism with you and for you - making sure that Spirit is a part of everything we do!  (that's numero uno!)
~ I can help you design/maintain a website or blog.  I can write content for it too, or for other posts.
~ I can help you plan the coolest and best workshop you've ever taught in your life!  I recently helped a few teachers plan cruise workshops and think I may have 1 in the works for a group of goddesses to spend a week at a historic French monastery.
When I say cool, I mean cool! :)
Oh no, wait - the coolest part about those trips...the teachers are traveling free and getting paid for teaching.  My heart is absolutely singing now, I swear!!!
Last, but not least...
I can run my big mouth all over the Internet and
through my connections with holistic-type folks worldwide.
About my big mouth: I share honest stories and comments about your services all over my blog and throughout Social Media.
About my connections: there's about 1100 of them on my FB, 5000+ monthly on my blog and hundreds throughout the world, from Australia to the North Pole. Literally.
If you want me to help you tap into this community and reach to new heights like never before, get in touch with me and we can talk about it.
Let's stop trying to make a difference alone.  I am here to help you. That is what I've been called to do.
Much love & light to you all.
Namaste,
Katy
I support you on your journey
and am sending love and light right now!
Although I wrote this post mainly for Healing Arts Practitioners, this note is for all of you lovely enthusiasts out there:
If you practice Yoga, Shamanism, Reiki, Ayurveda, or any other healing modality or spiritual/mystical practice out there, LifeIsCrazyGood.com is a place where you can find information on workshops, services and products from the people that I am blessed to know and trust.
From Hokey Pokey to Gung-Ho. Understand that everything takes time.
I know from first hand experience, that as a new practitioner of anything, one of a few things will usually happen...
   1.  It won't feel right
   2.  It'll feel almost too right.
   3.  You'll give it time.
I'm a big fan of #3: giving it time. But, let me explain the options and you pick for yourself.
1. The energy will feel weird to you, and it just won't "click."  It may feel ineffective to you.  You may even think it's all a bunch of bologna and dismiss it as hokey-pokey.
A RMT (Reiki Master Teacher) friend of mine described a scenario to me like the other day. She attuned a student and they didn't feel the energy at all.
2. Your newly discovered techniques and skills will excite you so much that you get a little too gung-ho. :)
Trust me, I know all about gung-ho!  And, I get it!
My Reiki I & II book
I have worn this poor thing out!!
The energy you feel can be very high when first being exposed to a new modality that really clicks with you.  And you want so bad to share what you know with the world.
You may feel like running out to practice on as many things or people as you possibly can.
I've done this with Reiki, shamanism and Yoga. It makes me laugh at how I was shooting Reiki all over the place when I received my first degree. My garden, my house, my friends, my neighbors, my kids, my pets... Bless their hearts, how do they put up with me?! :)
The energy of being this excited can start to wear you out. You can get irritating to the people around you too, if you're not careful. Trust me, I've annoyed enough people in my day to know this!  It's possible I'm even annoying some of you at this point.
But, rather than wearing yourself out by going overboard.  And instead of being negative, as in the first scenario I described of not feeling the energy.  There's good news...I have messed up enough times to have found a middle ground that has worked well for me.
So, learn from my mystical mistakes and stick with the following option when learning a new healing modality or spiritual practice...
3.  Understand that everything takes time.
Let all of this new knowledge slowly penetrate through your skin and work it's way deep into your soul.
That will take time.
If you feel like practicing all of the time and on everyone, by all means, do!  The people that are meant to understand, will.  If people roll their eyes at you, send them love and rise above it.  Practice what you preach!
If you are on the other end of the energy spectrum and don't feel it at all, still remember that this all takes time.  Just be open to receiving if you are meant to, and don't beat yourself or anyone else up if you don't.
If there is some knowledge or light out there that is intended for you, you can't fully receive it if you are either too resistant or too overzealous.  By being either of those ways, you are also blocking the light from other people.  Find a middle ground and hang out there for a while...chances are, that's where the real healing will take place.
Much love and happy practicing!
Namaste~I bow to the divine in you!
Katy
So, keep you eyes peeled for this baby girl!
Trying Some Reiki On A Mood Bead
I picked up this super cool bead the other day from Breath of Life in Kennesaw, GA.
It was assembled on a tiny keyring by Cully Burnet, RYT, RPYT and Certified Reflexologist.
You can call her Cully, but I call her a creative maniac!  A nickname I sort of gave her when I saw the extent of her gorgeous collection.  The energy around all of it is calm and peaceful, a reflection of the beautiful spirit that crafted it.  You can get in contact with her on her website here:  EXCELSIOR HEALING ARTS
This particular bead, I could see using regularly in my Reiki or other Healing Arts practice.  Cully puts Reiki into all of her creations, and you can really tell!  It reacts instantly to increased energy and I'm going to be incorporating it with my work with others as well. Whether in a personal or professional capacity, this bead can help me to demonstrate the power of Reiki energy. I'm very excited about that!
Honestly, I'd rather show you a video than go on and on about this amazing piece of jewelry that I've recently added to my altar. But, I do have to say this before you view what's next..
I wanted to know if this bead was reacting to the heat of my hand to change colors, or the energies. So, I put it to the test with Reiki.
The first time I did it, I was so shocked!  I repeated it at least a dozen times before I figured out that I should tape it. Hence, the video you're about to see.
Every time that I called Reiki to my hands, Cully's bead reacted to the Reiki by taking on deep blues, greens and purples.  Without the Reiki, the bead would only turn yellow, with a light bit of green. It was awesome to see the difference with and without the Reiki energy.
Very cool stuff.  See for yourself...
Accepting Myself As Perfectly Imperfect!
I know I'm not alone, when I say that I sometimes have voices in my head that tell me I'm shit!
You never really get over self-doubt and judgement, but I work as diligently as I can to change that for myself.  Believing in myself, my family, God and my community are things that come much easier to me the more I accept myself as being perfectly imperfect.
Having good friends rocks!
I have been able to release shame and judgement, through meditation, yoga, reiki, shamanism, psychotherapy and by celebrating the Divine Feminine through friends and goddesses that I am blessed to know.
I still have my days when I take things too personally or have a hard time seeing past parts of my ego that keep hanging on.  But, for the most part, the voices are dispelled, or at least no louder than a low whisper.
Namaste,
Katy :)
P.S.  That's my dear friend Dora in the picture.  She's a super-gifted Reiki Master and all-around awesome gal!  :)  I've written some stories about her gifts and about the Goddess Circle to which we both belong.  You can check out some of that information here:
My Mystical Training. A Master of Nothing, A Student of Everything.
I started actively pursuing mystical and spiritual knowledge around the same time that I started driving a car, at 15 or 16.  That's when I started going to the bookstore that sold crystals, Tarot cards, runes and the like.  It was my secret escape.  Even though it was filled with dragons, daggers and pentagrams, all of these things that I had been programmed to be afraid of, this bookstore was always a safe place for me.
"Mysticism" by
Evelyn Underhill
An amazing book!
Through that community, my mystical journey began when I was gifted the book, "Mysticism" by Evelyn Hill, when I was 17 by a Wiccan and astrologist who became my first teacher.  I studied under her, learning about the Tarot and the pagan way, until I moved far away when I was 22.  In the 20 years since then, I have continued to meditate daily, observe pagan holidays and practice my own version of an Earth-based spirituality.
Over the years, I have sought information on the esoteric through a variety of avenues - lectures, books, workshops and lots of worldwide adventures.
I have also completed a class in Curanderismo, Traditional Mexican Healing, offered through the University of New Mexico.  I have learned many valuable healing techniques through my studies of the Curanderos (Traditional Mexican Healers), such as firecupping, juicing and creating herbal tinctures and salves.
Curanderos (Mexican Healers)
use a firecupping method that
leaves no marks.
In addition to this course, I have also completed, or am enrolled in, a couple of others, including a course I took in Bioelectricty from Duke University, and an upcoming class on Buddhist Meditation taught through an extension program of University of Virginia
The most memorable class I have ever taken, or ever will, was a Buddhism 101 course at Emory University taught by the His Holiness The Dalai Lama, himself.
Taking Refuge in Buddha, Dharma & Sangha.
To me, translates as God, Nature & Community.
While I am not a practicing Buddhist, those teachings are a very important part of my spiritual practice. I have been Taking Refuge on and off for ten years - a Buddhist practice of going inward to seek solace and to answer some of life's questions.
In Taking Refuge, I will typically pray to the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, releasing everything into these symbols of God, Nature & Community, for the purpose of achieving greater clarity.
I spent a short time in Japan in 2002. On that visit, I was able to go to many sacred places near Tokyo, learning some Buddhist ways in Temples and Sacred Gardens there.
My spiritual work has also included Yoga, shamanism and Reiki.  I have the least training in Yoga of those 3 practices.  I consider myself a yogini, in that I have dedicated my life to pursuing mystical and spiritual knowledge for the purpose being open to whatever my intended enlightenment in this lifetime.  However, I am not trained as a Yoga teacher and actually know very little about The Way of Yoga.  I have practiced Hatha and Bikram on and off for 15 years.  I would consider myself very much still a beginner.  I have the most experience with Bikram as far as practicing in a studio, but I have never had a formal teacher other than that.  That's all about to change though - read on...
Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat
I recently visited The Sivananda Ashram in the Bahamas in the pursuit of this knowledge.  I wasn't able to stay long, but I am open to learning more and have plans to visit the Ashram again several times in the next year.  While my lifestyle wouldn't allow me to live at the Ashram full time, my service is in raising awareness and bringing revenue and donations to this community.
There are a few other things in the works right now, that I expect will open up many more pathways for me to explore The Way of Yoga.
I am starting the year with a Yoga Vision Quest at Candler Park Yoga. I'm looking forward to this experience, as well as being open to really letting Yoga work in my life in the coming year.
A sweet & short video from my recent trip to
The Sivananda Ashram in the Bahamas
A video posted by Katy (@earthreiki) on
As far as Reiki goes, I received my Usui Reiki I and II degrees from the same Master Teacher, Mary Jahntz.  Her Master Teacher was William Rand.  I took about a year between degrees.  I've never had a desire to teach Reiki, so I have not pursued advanced training beyond Choden (Reiki Level II).  I do have a very close relationship with my RMT (Reiki Master Teacher) and she continues to teach and guide me as Reiki moves with me through life.
Reiki I Class - My dear teacher,
I love Reiki so much and am very disciplined in my daily practice.  I share Reiki with family, friends, my pets, my garden, trees and all of Nature.  I don't accept Reiki clients, but have provided it professionally at festivals and in workshops.  I mainly practice what I call "Earth Reiki" - I send Reiki to Mother Earth to heal global problems.  I also coordinate Whole Earth Healings and distance Reiki events.
There is another Reiki Master Teacher, Rebecca Hay, in my life that has not technically become my teacher yet.  In fact, we've never met in person, but we have communicated enough for me to know that she will be another Reiki teacher of mine, in what capacity, Spirit has not yet made clear.
As far as my shamanic practice, I have been working with spirit guides in Nature since I was a little girl.  I recall being 4 or 5 and talking to trees, rocks, ladybugs, clouds, and the such.  I consider certain guides, Turtle, Bear and Rosemary, to be just as much my teachers as any human being ever has been.  :)
The Reiki Principles I recite twice daily
I have also studied formally under my dear teacher, Dr. Steven Serr since 2012.  I have attended and taught a number workshops on shamanism over the past 3 years and would consider myself a knowledgeable and disciplined shamanic practitioner.  I have shamanic clients and students, but have not built a formal business around shamanism, nor do I have any desire to ever do that.  With the exception of writing a book, that is.  I recently made major work changes to accommodate the intention I set to write one in 2015 on shamanic journeying.
Well, I guess that summarizes my experience of pursuing mystical and spiritual knowledge.
Although I do have certificates and degrees in some of this stuff and have had some incredible teachers, I would consider myself a master of nothing, and a student of everything.
Reconnecting To My Inner Wisdom By Starting The Year With A Yoga Vision Quest
I've been doing a lot of reflecting this year on my purpose.
"Why am I here?" used to be a question that terrified me.
In the last year, I've been working with a psychologist. This therapy has been immensely helpful, but I swear...there were times when I hated that damn shrink!!
The one time that really stands out, is when he gave me the homework of listing my reasons for living: my purpose.
Taking Refuge in The Buddha, Dharma
and Sangha has helped me to discover
my purpose.
This homework of his, literally depressed me. I felt, at that time anyway, like there was no reason for me here on Earth at all. Lord, was I a pathetic and fragile bunny then or what?!
Good news - I snapped out of it and didn't kill the doctor, myself, or anyone else for that matter.
Whew!  Everyone can relax now. :)
All joking aside, discovering my true purpose is a very important goal of mine. One I have sort of reached, but sort of not... I'm still exploring my options, I guess you could say.
I plan to carry forward my intention of discovering my purpose, by exploring ways to connect with my inner wisdom.
One of my ways to explore my purpose, is by starting my new year off with a
"Yoga Vision Quest".
This workshop is being held on January 18th at Candler Park Yoga in Atlanta, GA
It is being facilitated by Rebecca Gurholt Sands, L.P.C.  She is a psychotherapist in private practice.
FYI: She is NOT the same therapist I had previously wanted to choke.  :)
Rebecca Gurholt Sands, L.P.C.
As far as I know, I seriously doubt anyone has ever wanted to choke Rebecca.  From what I understand, she has been teaching yoga since 1993 and cultivating her personal practice of yoga and meditation for 30 years.
I am honored to be sharing this time with her on the 18th of this coming January for some ever-needed rejuvenation!
In this 3-hour workshop of guided meditation, personal reflection and mindfulness, in conjunction with restorative yoga postures, Rebecca will be helping me to more easily access my own innate intelligence.
I cannot wait!  I feel like 2015 is going to be the best ever!!!
If you're interested in joining me in this class, please reach out to the Studio directly and immediately. There are registration deadlines and class size limits, so click on this link below and contact them if you feel guided to do so:
Posing Questions and Receiving Answers
I had lunch the other day with a few lady friends of mine.
One of them had a concern and posed this to the group:
"How do I get an answer to my question?"
We all ended up agreeing that the best plan of action, was to first, sit with the question.
Second, was to ask Spirit for an answer.
How are you going to get an answer if you don't ask?!
And finally, we agreed that it was important to trust the answer when it was presented and affirmed.
Winter Solstice. Everything leads to a rebirth.
The Winter Solstice represents the point at which the light begins returning.
Everything in the last year has led to this rebirth of the Sun.
For me, this is a magical time when I feel called to rest and regenerate.
To prepare for the mystical things that are headed my way in the coming year.
Also, to reflect on the intentions I set at Spring Equinox and how beautiful the process of them unfolding has been.
Happy Solstice!
Namaste.
THE CAT'S PAJAMAS. A Wish List of Mystical Goodies.
Ok, so this page has hardly anything to do with cats or pajamas.  With the exception of this video of our diva kitty, Josie.
She's living la vida loca in her sassy pink feather boa!
We all love to play dress up in this house - it's just one of those things that makes life crazy good around here!  :)
My 'CROWN' as I call it. :)
Try it sometime...wear a hat, or 'crown' as I call it, around the house, or hell, wear it around town if you want to!
Or throw on a pair of tacky footed jammies for laying around the house.
I guarantee that it'll be a fantastic and crazy good thing for you!
Alright, that's it for cats and pajamas, I promise!
Here's a list of mystical goodies that I consider The Cat's Pajamas....
These are fabulous and absolutely magical things I have discovered through my travels and experiences.
I believe all of these products, services, practitioners and adventures to be truly excellent.  I hope you'll benefit from some of them too.
Talking To Trees - Here's how to do it...
I've always had an energetic connection with Nature, but in particular with trees.  I talk to them, love them, know them and receive wisdom from them.
There are so many messages in the detail of the bark.
I also write about them quite a bit.  I share tree meditations, gypsy tree lore and information on how to see their auras.  Click over on the right on the link that says 'Plants & Trees' and you'll see what I mean.
Seeing a tree's aura is something almost anyone can do - it's actually easy. It's also a wonderful way to commune with the natural beauty that exists all around us.
This time of year, after the trees have shed their leaves, is the perfect time for seeing some tree auras!  Once I can see the tree's 'bones' as I call them, it's much easier for me to quickly see their energy fields as well. By their bones, I mean their trunks and branches.
It's amazing how many messages there are in the details of a tree's bones - take a look outside and you'll see what I mean.
Anybody can receive tree wisdom if they want it. Just try this...
I wonder what the message is here.
Look at a tree. Greet it or just sit with it for a minute and 'feel' it. I usually greet trees with "namaste", which is loosely translated as, "the spirit in me, respects the spirit in you."
Keep looking at the tree...When you spot a curve in a branch or a knot on the trunk or something else that catches your attention, gaze at it for a minute. Ask it if it has a message for you.  If it does, you will receive it. Just trust. After all, isn't that was this all about?!  Just trusting.
If you do trust in this, you can also bring an intention or question to a tree. Doing so, can provide you great insight into the solution for a particular problem. Many times, I have seen a situation completely differently after consulting with a tree.
Give it a whirl and see what you think.
If you have a tough time with this, let me know and I would gladly provide you some more insight.  I am particularly connected to spirit guides in Nature through my shamanic practice and can help you to connect with those same resources.
My email address is: katywinthrop@gmail.com
Enjoy!
Much love,
Katy
